Devotional on Marriage #3: A Lifetime Commitment
Matthew 19:6
"Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not separate."
As I was reading through related verses on the scripture above, I have come to realize how important commitment in marriage is.
According to 1 Corinthians 7:10, the wife should not separate from her husband. It is clear in the Bible that this is a commandment from the Lord.
This is supported in Malachi 2:16 which states that divorcing one's spouse is like covering one's garments with violence. God instructed us to guard ourselves from unfaithfulness.
The question of divorce being lawful is in fact mentioned in the Bible, but clearly, scriptures in the Bible answered the query:
Malachi 2:11
"I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commit adultery."
Mark 10:11-12
"And He said to them, 'Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.'"
Therefore, it is biblical that divorce should never be an option especially if mutual incompatibility is discovered while committed to marriage. It is then more acceptable if we look at it as a consequence to our commitment.
Personally, even if my marriage is young, I do not want to see things like arguments or discoveries of differences as consequences to my commitment in marriage. I want to see them as challenges that may test how sturdy our relationship is as husband and wife.

Things I learned:
- Marriage is a lifetime commitment; hence, I should be ready to face many ups and downs along the way.
- I will not allow thoughts of infidelity in cases where loss of interest with each other may come in the future.
- NEVER choose divorce as a solution to marital problems (for the Lord will never be pleased). Forgive, be more patient, and love more instead.

Bless you! ♥️
