Devotional on Marriage #4: A Wife's Ultimate Role
Genesis 2:18
"The Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him.'"
In the beginning, as reflected in the scriptures, the woman was created from man.
It is also stated in 1 Corinthians 11:9, "Neither was man created for woman. but woman for man."
God, during the days of creation, formed Adam first before Eve (1 Timothy 2:13). And Eve was formed from Adam's rib.
In verse 3, it is clear that the "head of the man is Christ and the head of the woman is man."
Verse 7 mentions that man is the image and glory of God while the woman is the glory of man.
Therefore, the Lord has commanded the woman, more so the wife, to learn in quietness and full submission (1 Timothy 2:11).
With that, God further stated in verse 12 that He does not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; hence saying that in marriage, the wife must submit to her husband and must not have authority over him.
In this modern world, this may be contestable since we have seen women practicing empowerment not only outside their homes, but also in their "homes" wherein their roles are "moms" and "wives".
We have been taught of gender equality and freedom to do and say what we think is right.
Personally, when I read the scriptures, I felt quite disinclined because in our home, I can generally say that my voice is always heard -- or oftentimes, the "only one" heard.
This saddened me.
Not because it was made clear in the Bible that as a wife I need to be submissive to my husband, but because I realized I never gave my husband a chance to be the "head of the family."
Now that my eyes are open, I want to practice this starting today. ♥️
I realized that this commandment is from God, and that He has all the reasons why this should be applied.
My devotional today made me become fully aware of my role as a wife -- my husband's HELPER and that is being his fan, supporter, motivator, and "homemaker".
When I say "homemaker", I am referring to building him and our family a home so tranquil that they can relax and be energized anytime.
It is true in the Bible that God gave men, as husbands, two key tasks -- to provide for and protect their families.
Therefore, as a wife, as the main "helper" for my husband, I am responsible in making sure my husband accomplishes his tasks by giving him all the support and love that he needs.
More importantly as a wife and a mom, I am totally in-charge in blessing my family with a home full of peace, appreciation, love, and support.
---
Things I learned:
- I am designed to be a helper for my husband and that is written in the scriptures.
- Husbands want PEACE in their homes.
- I must make my husband a PRIORITY and must not forget to appreciate him.
- It is my role as a wife to understand and serve my husband in ways that refresh and encourage him.
---
Bless you! ♥️
